Catherine Lawlor - Violin, Piano, Viola

 

British violinist, Catherine Lawlor, began studying the violin at the age of seven with Janis Moore. At age eleven, she gained a Hampshire Music Award, later proceeding to study on the Hampshire Specialist Music Course under the instruction of Adrian Adlam. In 2009, she won a full scholarship to study with Marius Bedeschi at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, where she won many of the chamber music and solo prizes. In 2013, Catherine began studying with Daniel Phillips at the Aaron Copland School of Music at Queens College. 
 

As an orchestral musician, Catherine has played for ensembles such as: BBC National Orchestra of Wales (BBC NOW), Sinfonia Cymru, Cardiff Sinfonietta,The Croft Orchestra, Welsh Sinfonia, British Sinfonietta and Solent Symphony Orchestra, as well as winning placements with BBC NOW and Welsh National Opera. She has recorded for film (independent), television and radio for the BBC and Avanti. 

 

She has given recitals throughout the UK as part of the Castle Mews String Quartet and as a soloist. She has also been fortunate enough to play in Carnegie Hall and toured some of the great halls of Europe (Italy, Spain, Czech Republic, Norway). 
 

Catherine is a promoter of new music, and whilst studying for her undergraduate degree she sat as concertmistress of the new music group, Sinfonia Newydd. Masterclasses, chamber music coaching
and further lessons have been with Tasmin Little, Levon Chillingirian, Andrew Watkinson, Nicole Wilson,Nick Whiting, David Adams, Lesley Hatfield, Lucy Gould, Alice Neary, Benjamin Frith, Andrew Brodowski,
Jon Thorne, Richard Ireland, Simon Rowland-Jones, Heather Badke-Hohmann, members of the Schubert Ensemble, and the Brodski and Endellion Quartets.
